Who doesn’t dream of being famous? To be recognised everywhere, to have their picture on the cover of papers everywhere, to be asked for autographs, to make a lot of money. But: Is stardom really all that?

Does it not also mean that you are manipulated by the press? Chased by paparazzi, reporters and fans? Loved the one minute and ignored and forgotten the next?

In this play that our students of the 1st and 2nd forms saw on 15th April 2010 Dave, a 16-year-old teenager, is auditioning for “Starmaker”. He manages to persuade his girlfriend, Chloe, to accompany him to the sports centre where he – together with hundreds of other hopeful candidates – enters the competition.

Chloe, although not registered, makes it to the next stage and start a solo career. Before, however, she has to drop Davy and pretend to be a recovering anorexic, to make her life more interesting for the newspapers. From now on “Starmakers” takes over her whole life and changes her completely.

One step away from the semi-final and two steps away from the recording contract, jealous Davy sells her “true story” to a reporter. Chloe’s career is ruined and she has a tough time in the press.

Brought down to earth this way the two teenagers forgive each other and become friends again. They return to “normal” life and decide to start their careers in a “normal” way by finishing school, going to university …

The show was a big success. Our students really enjoyed the performance and quite a lot of pupils couldn’t help shouting “We love you, Chloe!” during the show. We are looking forward to seeing the next show next year!
